M.A.C Lipstick Reviews

Hi guys! It has been a while and I am sorry for that! I thought I would do a review today on M.A.C lipsticks as I have been introduced to them by one of my best friends and have now found an absolute love for them! I have recently bought the shades, DIVA, REBEL and PINK PLAID and I adore them.

My favourite is DIVA as it is a deep, matte red and goes well with most of the looks I do. It needs to be applied with a lip brush to give the best edges as it can be quite a difficult colour to apply as it is so dark. It lasts me most of the day and can withstand most food and drinks depending on how careful you are with it. I think it looks beautiful against pale skin as it is such a striking colour.

REBEL is a bright, satin purple shade that isn't for the faint hearted but if you love bright colours, then this is the one for you.

PINK PLAID is a matte pink colour which looks lovely on a lot of my clients but does not go very well with my own fair complexion, which is very disappointing for me as it is such a pretty colour.

I have swatched the colours below as M.A.C colours look completely different on skin compared to in the tubes.

I hope to get some more colours in the future from M.A.C. They may be a bit pricey at £15 each, but they are so worth it!

My favourite eyeshadow look for December 2013!

I very rarely wear the same look more that a couple of times, but the look I am going to show to today I just loved!

I took inspiration from a youtuber called Emma Pickles who does very useful and easy to follow tutorials.

The eyeshadow products I used were mainly by NYX, but I did use an Avon eye base in Light beige to prevent the eyeshadow from creasing and to make the look last longer.

I used a dark green colour all over my lid using a large, flat eyeshadow brush, and pressed it on to allow for a darker application. Then using fluffy brush, blended out the edges. I then used a taupe colour on another fluffy brush to blend out the edge of the green to make a softer look. Using the same green on a smaller eyeshadow brush, I brought it under my lower lash line and then blended it together with the taupe colour.

The gold I used was maybelline 24hr colour tattoo in 24K Gold which is very pigmented and very sparkly! I applied it to my inner corner to brighten up my eyes and give the look a bit of festive cheer!

Next I added a black eyeliner to my upper and lower waterlines, and used a brown eyeliner just on the inner corner, so it didn't make the look too harsh. I then curled my lashes and added a couple of coats of my favourite mascara by Bourjois, Volume Glamour Max.

I then used a blend of two shades of NYX eyebrow powders to define my brows. I then do my usual foundation routine to finish off the look, and I either used MAC lipstick in the colour DIVA which is a very bold and dark red, or I use a nude coloured lipstick. I have one from Bourjois' Rouge Edition in the colour Beige Trent 2.

I am still debating whether or not to do youtube tutorials myself, but then again I'm not brilliant at verbally explaining how I apply my own makeup. I generally learn from watching other people and try and replicate the look. I may have a practice run and see how I go. You never know? New year, New things!

Im Back!!

So I have realised that I haven't blogged in a while and feel that I should start again! I apologise to those who do read my blog as it has almost been 5 months since I last blogged! I have been so busy with work and preparing for Christmas and trying to set up my makeup business, Makeup By Rebecca, which I did not realise would be so difficult.

I have always had an interest in makeup, but since watching youtube videos and getting a lot of compliments from people about the way I do my makeup, I have decided to start making over other people, and try to teach them how to bring out their best features with the art of makeup. I didn't know that some people find it difficult to apply makeup as I find it just comes naturally to me. Some people can learn to play music by ear, like my sister who has her own youtube channel Violetfield95. Some people can paint their nails perfectly and make amazing art! I cannot paint my nails to save my life as I am too impatient to let them dry so they smudge everywhere! And I just watch videos, read tutorials, pick up my brushes and eyeshadows and away we go! Okay, I'm rambling on a bit but different people are able to pick up all sorts of skills naturally but are unable to do others.

I did a makeup course in August where I learnt a few new things as I did not know where abouts to contour the face and before I did struggle to colour match. I did not understand the concepts of lilac and green concealer either! It was a great day spent. The day went so fast as I enjoyed it so much. I absolutely love trying to create a look on someone new and trying to pick out the best colours that would suit their eye colour and really make them look and feel glamorous!

In the new year I will be dedicating the little free time I have to advertising my business and building up my portfolio. I experiment as much as I can with my own looks and have begun to borrow my friend's and family's faces.

Since seeing the Hunger Games this year, I absolutely fell in love with Katniss Everdeen's makeup! Especially the black and gold makeup at the tribute parade. I will be hoping to recreate the look below as soon as possible!

In the new year I hope to be able to blog more regularly and try out more looks on myself and others. I am also open to any suggestions of tutorials or blogs you would like to see in the future. I will be doing my December favourites in January 2014, and will also be doing my favourite Christmassy look before 2013 ends!

My July/August Beauty Haul

 

Since I started blogging, I've gotten a bit obsessed with makeup. I cannot go into a makeup shop without coming out with at least one or two or five things! In the last month I have been converted into a MAC lover, and I have also started to wear foundation.

I bought Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation when I encountered a giant spot on my chin and it has been amazing! I have mentioned it before in my previous post but after using it now for a couple of weeks, I am still in love with it. Even my friends and colleagues have noticed. They have said my skin looks brighter, clearer and smoother. I would really recommend it to anyone. It has really good coverage and doesn't make you feel caked in makeup. It also protects your skin from the sun as it contains SPF 15.

Due to the previously mentioned spot dilemma, I also bought collection 2000's Lasting Perfection Ultimate Concealer in Fair, and that also works very well. I haven't really tried many concealers before but I feel this does the job. I also use it to cover dark circles, although I feel it leaves a powdery finish occasionally. I don't feel that it blends very well under the eyes, but on spots it works very well.

I bought a concealer and foundation brush as it gives a better result. I'm not sure on the make as I got it from superdrug, but it has a brush on each end and the bristles are nylon. I do have to use my fingers after to smooth out the foundation as you can see a few lines from the brush, but for a highstreet makeup brush, it isn't too bad.

As it was 3 for 2 in superdrug on Bourjois products, I decided to grab a couple of things. I have heard good reviews on Bourjois' Volume Glamour Max mascara, so I thought I'd try it out. It does add volume but I still prefer my Maybelline Rocket Volum' Masacara. I also saw a couple of gorgeous eyeshadow colours that I just had to get. I thought I would get a nude sort of colour, and of course, purple is my favourite colour so I needed that one too. The pale pink is very sparkly and pretty, and looks lovely with black eyeliner. The purple is very good also and I think it would go very well with my new MAC eyeshadow in white (Gesso).

Bourjois Eyeshadows

I also bought MAC in Gesso, and MAC in carbon, which I use for eyeliner, and it lasts all day! I am very impressed, but my bank account is not :(.

From Rimmel I grabbed a white eyeliner pencil which I believe is an essential part of any makeup bag, as it makes your eyes look larger and brighter. You can also add it to the inner corner of your eye to make them look wider.

From collection 2000 I bought a cream blusher and highlighter. I must say, I am not a big fan of this. It is a lovely colour but I don't think I like the feel of it on my cheeks. The cream feels quite drying, and doesn't feel very comfortable. I think I am going to stick to powder blushers from now on, unless someone can recommend a good cream blush that doesn't feel like war paint. The highlighter doesn't do very much either, unless I fail at application. I also grabbed their Fix Me Up spray which states to give you longer lasting makeup. I'm not really a fan of this either. The spray doesn't spray evenly, it just feels like someone has spat on your face. I think it does make your makeup last longer but after I have patted my face dry.

 

I am still in love with my Moroccan Argan Oil. I think I have been using it for about a month now and my hair feels and looks much better than before, and I would still recommend it to anyone.

Rimmels 'Drop of Sherry' Lipstick

Finally, this month I felt like I should care for my lips a bit more, so I grabbed LUSH's lip scrub, and a Rimmel lipstick. I do love the colour in 'Drop of Sherry' but now looking at the picture above, I can see that it bleeds, so I may have to buy a lip pencil to prevent that. I also have a rather large bottom lip, so it looks as though I have over done them and put it on my chin.

I have now had to ban myself for a month from buying makeup, as I have slightly overdone it. I need to use the makeup I have already got and then buy some more :D.

My Spot Saviours!

 

 

I don't usually use foundation or concealer as I am rather lucky to have clear skin with the odd break out, but this week I did the worst thing ever! I tried to attack a spot that was not ready and created a worse problem than what was already there. I tried using some of my sister's makeup, and tried some tinted moisturiser as that was the only thing closest to foundation we had in the house. Three girls in the house and not one of us had foundation! What a nightmare.

 

Before I went to work, I popped into Superdrug to get some products that would cover up the beast. I know I may be over exaggerating, but to yourself, a spot seems like a huge mountain on your face, that no one would probably notice if you didn't scream, 'OMG I HAVE A SPOT!'

 

First of all, I picked up Rimmel's Wake Me Up foundation. I am always worried about foundation as I am quite pale and I'm worried of getting the Essex orange look (And I can say that because I'm an Essex girl), but this foundation was amazing! I bought it in the shade Ivory and it blended in so well. I had to buy myself a foundation brush as I didn't have one and that also worked very well. It took the redness off the beast without looking like I'd caked it in makeup.

 

I told my beauty friend about my spot issue and after telling me off, she recommended Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer. I bought it in the shade Fair. I was a bit worried that it would be too light and highlight my spot, rather than cover it, but after blending it in it worked really well. Together these products worked brilliantly and they weren't that expensive either! Although my spot wasn't invisible, it covered the worst of it and hopefully didn't make it so prominent, which made me feel better.

 

I would highly recommend these products if you have your own beasties, but let me know if you have found any products that work better for you.

LUSH - Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Me and my friend decided to go to Westfield in Stratford the other day and I may have spent a little on a few bits and bobs. I bought a couple of beauty products that I will share with you.

Firstly, I was dragged into LUSH by my friend as she wanted to buy some of their bath bombs. I tend to avoid the shop as the strong mixture of smells hurt my nose, but I am a good friend so suffered in silence. As we were at the tills I spotted something out of the corner of my eye that looked interesting and decided I'd give it a go as my friend said she had some and it worked really well.

I had bought some Lip Scrub in the flavour Bubblegum. There were two other flavours, mint and popcorn, but as the bubblegum flavour was bright pink, and smelt lovely, I chose that one. What is good about it is that it contains all natural products, and what is even better, is that you can eat it as it is sugar based! You just put a bit on your lips and scrub to exfoliate off the flakes, and then you can lick it off.

After scrubbing my lips I like to use Blistex's Daily Lip Conditioner, which makes your lips feel smoother. It cools your lips making it feel like it is doing it's job by sinking in.

I really like the Blistex range. My favourite so far is the Blistex Relief Cream, although I do not like the tube it is in. It's in a metal tube, so no matter how lightly you squeeze it, the product just keeps coming out and then you have too much and it won't rub in your lips. I think it sounds a bit risque too if people don't know what it is. I have also used the Blistex Intensive Moisturiser which is very good as well.

After our shopping trip I have decided that I am not very happy with my friend as she has now made me love M.A.C eyeshadow! I know that I am doing a beauty blog which means I automatically should like M.A.C products, but it doesn't mean that my bank account has to like it. Poor, poor bank account :(. I will post about the eyeshadows I bought and how I am using them as soon as I can, but let me know if you have tried the LUSH Lip Scrub and if you have tried the other flavours as I would love to hear from you.

Moroccan Argan Oil

 

 

Last week I decided to buy some argan oil as my hair was starting to feel a bit coarse and I have heard that it is very good for your hair.

 

The bottle claims to 'help moisturise, revive and create softness and strength while helping protect your hair from harmful styling heat and UV damage'. My hair takes a lot of heat damage as it is dry, thick and frizzy, so I use straighteners almost everyday. Also it has been very hot in England these past few weeks so I definately need the UV protection!

 

I have to say, I was very impressed! It was very simple to use as well. All you do is put a small amount into your palm, rub your hands together and evenly apply it onto damp, towel-dried hair. After drying my hair with the product on, I was suprised to see that my hair was half the size it usually was when I dry it without the product. My hair feels a lot more nourished and silky smooth. I don't have as many fly-aways as I used too either. I bought this at superdrug for less than £5 as it was on offer at the time and I would highly recommend it! Just make sure you avoid applying it to your roots, as it is an oil and can make your hair look greasy rather than shiny.
